Medbiome

Market Research and Strategizing

Medbiome is an amazing startup in the microbiome theraputics space.

I had the oppertunity to work with them as part of the Connexions program, and was asked to help them identify important connections in the industry.

They're flagship product was a high throughput microbiome testing product called RapidAIM. The RapidAIM platform allowed them to measure drug and probiotic impacts on the microbiome quicker and more effectively then competitors. The platform served a dual function; as a tool allowing them to develop certain types of theraputics faster, and as a source of revenue providing testing services.

To find good partners or investors I looked for companies similar to Medbiome than identified who they worked with and how. To find similar companies I combed industry reports, trial versions of datasets, publicly available datasets and university datasets. Then I used annual reports, business news outlets, Crunchbase, and a number of other tools to figure out who those companies partnered with and who they recieved investment from. Ultimately I compiled a list of names and was able to confirm It's veracity when discovered I had independetly turned up a number of the companies which had already reached out to the Medbiome team.  

My work at Medbiome taught me a lot about the market research process. I enjoyed working with great people and am still greatful I had the oppertunity to contribute to such an important project.
